Description
The “Zebra” Table Bell was designed by Carl Auböck II in 1938 and is among the workshop’s most expressive early functional objects. Its compact bell-shaped body combines dark patinated brass with selectively polished areas, creating a vivid play of contrasting surfaces. A substantial handle in black saddle leather introduces warmth and tactility to the metal composition.
Model #3604 continues to be made using the traditional sand-casting method and the original mould. After casting, each bell is carefully finished and patinated by hand. Fine irregularities and subtle marks in the brass record this artisanal process and give each example an individual character. Producing a clear, resonant sound, the “Zebra” is both a functional table bell and a distinctive small sculpture of twentieth-century Austrian design.
