Description

It keeps a very close eye on what is inside.

The “EYE” bottle stopper was designed by Carl Auböck II in 1952/53 and is one of the wonderfully eccentric small objects created by the Werkstätte Carl Auböck. A solid polished brass body is topped with a hand-painted glass eye, giving an otherwise ordinary bottle stopper an unmistakable personality.

The eye is more than decoration. It transforms a functional bar accessory into a small object full of humour and character. It seals a bottle – while simultaneously giving the impression that someone is keeping a very close watch on its contents.

At 123 grams, the “EYE” also has remarkable weight for a bottle stopper. With a certain amount of Auböck humour, it can therefore double as a small paperweight on a desk. A typical Auböck idea: a functional object can also be an independent piece of design.

The “EYE” is made from polished brass and produced in Vienna. The glass eye is hand-painted, giving each individual piece its own expression.

A bottle stopper, a little eye – and a rather good reason not to leave the bottle unattended.

Details

  • Material: Brass polished.

Notice: After some time a patina can develop on the polished brass surface, which can be polished off with a soft cloth and then brass polish - if desired. Through the use of the original mold small errors, such as scratches or small creases can arise in the polished surface, which, however, do not detract from the charm of the object and underline the craft manufacturing process.
