"Crown" Ashtray - Polished Brass

A small crown for the table – and a classic of the Werkstätte Carl Auböck.

The “Crown” ashtray was designed in 1951 by Carl Auböck II. Its compact sculptural form genuinely resembles a crown, combining an unusual appearance with a perfectly natural sense of function.

The solid ashtray belongs to the group of objects through which the Werkstätte Carl Auböck became part of the international bar and club culture of the 1950s. The distinctive crown is closely associated with the image of Vienna’s sophisticated bar culture of the period and is also connected to the legendary Loos Bar in Vienna.

The “Crown” is made from solid polished brass. It is still produced in Austria using the original casting mould. Small scratches, marks or other minor irregularities may therefore occur on the surface, highlighting the traditional craftsmanship behind the object.

With its compact size and substantial weight, the “Crown” almost resembles a miniature bronze sculpture. Today, it can naturally also be used in other ways – as a jewellery bowl, small tray or decorative object.

A quintessential Carl Auböck: functional, sculptural, slightly eccentric and unmistakably Viennese.
