Description
A hand for opening letters – functional, sculptural and unmistakably Carl Auböck.
The elegant “Hand” letter opener was designed by Carl Auböck II in 1951 and has been produced by the Werkstätte Carl Auböck ever since. The simple yet unusual design transforms an everyday desk accessory into an independent design object.
The characteristic hand forms a solid, comfortable grip and flows into a slim, functional blade. This combination of human form and clear function is typical of Auböck’s approach to everyday objects: a practical tool becomes a small sculpture without losing its original purpose.
A letter opener that deserves a place on every modern desk – and perhaps even encourages us to write more letters again.

Material: Brass polished.
After some time a patina can develop on the polished brass surface, which can be polished off with a soft cloth and then brass polish - if desired.
Through the use of the original mold small errors, such as scratches or small creases can arise in the polished surface, which, however, do not detract from the charm of the object and underline the craft manufacturing process.
