Description
The same iconic form – in an exceptional finish.
The “Chain” paperweight was designed by Carl Auböck III in 1963 and is one of the characteristic small desk objects created by the Werkstätte Carl Auböck. A heavy chain becomes a sculptural body that leaves its original function behind while remaining perfectly suited to its new role as a paperweight.
The gold-plated version changes the character of the design considerably. Where the nickel-plated version appears cool and industrial, the gold finish over iron brings warmth, depth and an almost jewel-like presence to the individual links.
Despite its decorative surface, the form remains completely reduced. No unnecessary detail, no ornament – simply the chain itself. That restraint is precisely what gives the design its strength.
Weighing more than one kilogram, the “Chain” is a substantial object. On the desk it functions as a genuine paperweight, while at the same time working as a small independent sculpture.
