Bitossi Rimini Blu Dachshund

Low, long and entirely self-possessed, Aldo Londi’s ceramic Dachshund captures the character of the breed with only a few confident lines. Designed for Bitossi in 1956, it balances playful subject matter with the clarity of Italian Mid-Century Modern sculpture.

Hand-impressed geometric patterns animate the elongated body beneath a brilliant crystalline glaze. Variations of cobalt, marine blue and turquoise become more pronounced wherever the glaze settles into the textured surface.

At approximately 24 centimetres long, the Dachshund has enough weight and presence to stand alone on a shelf, desk or console. It may also serve as an unusually characterful paperweight.

Made and finished by hand in Italy, every figure displays slight variations in decoration and glaze. Each blue dog consequently has a personality of its own.
