Description

Small, substantial and reduced to the essentials.

This remarkable candle holder was designed by Carl Auböck II in 1948 and is one of the particularly purist designs of the Carl Auböck workshop. A low, generously proportioned base and a central candle socket – nothing more is needed.

Made from substantial patinated brass, the candle holder measures only 8.5 cm in height yet weighs more than 1.2 kg, giving it a surprisingly strong presence. Its dark patina emphasises the sculptural form and provides a beautiful contrast to warm candlelight.

The model is still carefully produced in Austria according to the historic design. Subtle traces of casting and hand finishing are part of the individual character of each piece.

Particularly striking as a pair, the candle holders work beautifully on a dining table, sideboard or mantelpiece. A related version with an opening in the base is also available.

Details

  • Info: After some time a patina can develop on the polished brass surface, which can be polished off with a soft cloth and then brass polish - if desired. Through the use of the original mold small errors, such as scratches or small creases can arise in the polished surface, which, however, do not detract from the charm of the object and underline the craft manufacturing process.
