Description
Compact, spiky and full of character, Aldo Londi’s Porcupine is one of the most distinctive animals in the Rimini Blu collection. Its defensive coat becomes a rhythmic ceramic pattern rather than a literal imitation of nature.
The figure is sometimes mistaken for a hedgehog. Bitossi’s official Italian name, “Istrice”, means porcupine, making its intended identity quite clear.
Hand-impressed lines and geometric marks define the quills beneath a brilliant crystalline glaze. Turquoise, marine blue and dark cobalt move across the textured back as the light changes.
The porcupine can symbolise protection, resilience and the confidence to establish boundaries. Displayed on a shelf or desk, it becomes a small guardian with a surprisingly strong presence.
Every figure is decorated and glazed by hand in Italy. Natural variations ensure that each Porcupine remains individual.
