Umbrella stand - polished brass + base painted matt black

A functional object with a distinctly Viennese character.

The umbrella stand #4293 was designed by Carl Auböck II in 1950 and is a fine example of Auböck’s ability to transform an everyday object into a distinctive piece of design.

Its slender frame is made from polished brass and stands on a striking base of blackened brass. The contrast between the warm, reflective metal and the dark matt base gives the otherwise restrained design its particular character.

The umbrella stand is closely connected to the atmosphere of Vienna in the 1950s – equally at home in the city’s coffeehouse culture and in the private interiors of the Viennese bohème.

A functional classic that looks remarkably good even without an umbrella.
