Bottle Stopper "FACE" - Polished Brass

A face for your bottle.

The “FACE” bottle stopper was designed by Carl Auböck II in 1952 and is one of the particularly charming small objects from the Werkstätte Carl Auböck. Cast in solid polished brass, an otherwise purely functional bottle stopper becomes a small sculptural object with remarkable personality.

The stylised face is reduced to its essentials: a few lines, a clear silhouette and a form that is immediately recognisable as a human face. This very reduction is what makes the design so timeless. Auböck needs no additional ornament – the face itself is the ornament.

The “FACE” functions as a practical bottle stopper, securely closing an opened bottle. On a dining table, bar cart or home bar, however, it remains visible and naturally becomes part of the setting.

At 175 grams, the object has remarkable weight for a bottle stopper. Once the bottle is closed, it can therefore also take on a small secondary role as a paperweight on the desk – a characteristically Auböck way of blurring the strict boundary between functional object and design piece.
