Bitossi Rimini Blu Cat "Gatto" XL

Tall, symmetrical and perfectly composed, Aldo Londi’s Gatto XL has the still authority of a small guardian. Designed for Bitossi in 1959, its upright posture and watchful expression carry a subtle echo of the ancient sphinx.

The restrained silhouette provides a striking contrast to the animated surface. Geometric marks are impressed by hand before a brilliant crystalline glaze covers the figure in shifting shades of turquoise and cobalt.

Standing 34 centimetres high, the Cat has the presence of a ceramic sculpture rather than a conventional decorative accessory. It is particularly effective displayed alone on a console, sideboard or low pedestal.

Every figure is decorated and glazed by hand in Italy. Natural variations in pattern, colour and finish give each Gatto XL an individual character.
